MUST BE A UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO LIFE SCIENCES GRADUATE STUDENT OR POST DOC TO APPLY
DEADLINE: July 14th, 2017 (Friday) – 5pm

Purpose: Publish articles that focus on useful, interesting and in-demand topics with the goal of establishing the LSCDS website as a resource hub for post-graduate life sciences students seeking professional development.
Responsibilities: Work with the writing team to publish 1 article/week; conduct interviews with professionals and invited guests for the alumni spotlight series; and co-ordinate with marketing team to promote events with articles.
SPONSORS AND GUEST APPRECIATION AFFAIRS
Purpose: To honour our sponsors and guests for the 2017-2018 year, and liaise with University of Toronto Alumni Affairs to expand and engage the LSCDS invited-guest alumni network.
Responsibilities: Update and maintain database of LSDCS invited-guests alumni; assist with the organization of the, “Spring Sponsor and Guests Appreciation Event” that involves inviting former LSCDS event guests, and students, arranging catering and venue, preparing event agenda and packages.
Purpose: To organize a full day conference featuring skill-building seminars, career development seminars, networking and company information sessions to provide a forum for life science graduate students and trainees to discover and explore career options.
Responsibilities: Assist with the recruitment of high-profile keynote speaker, key professionals to participate in the panelist discussions, and companies to exhibit in the company information session; assist with venue arrangement, catering, registration, event packages and other related event details.
CAREER SEMINAR SERIES
Purpose: To organize monthly seminars exploring a wide range of career options available life science graduate students and trainees, as well as and skill-building workshops.
Responsibilities: Invite 2-3 professionals per seminar, organize venue, catering, registration; liaise with marketing and communications team to promote the seminars and workshops.
FINANCE AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Purpose: To manage the overall budget of the organization and obtain sponsorship through monetary donations and/or collaborations to increase total funding for LSCDS events and initiatives.
Responsibilities: Assist with managing LSCDS yearly budget, monitoring expenses; apply for University of Toronto sponsorship grant applications; and seek out external sponsorships opportunities.
INDUSTRY TEAM CASE STUDY (ITCS)
Purpose: To organize and run an LSCDS-SCIIP collaboration that was launched last year to help life science graduate students develop industry sector-specific skills and build their CV/portfolio.
Responsibilities: Assist with recruitment of industry-specific facilitators; assist in student selection, screening and registration details; industry facilitator and team matching while working with SCIIP advisors.
Purpose: To provide graduate students with a platform to make meaningful connections with industry professionals who will mentor and help them in shaping their career paths.
Responsibilities: Recruiting industry professionals as mentors for the program; selecting/screening students as mentees for the program; matching mentors to mentees; and organizing related program events and workshops.
MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS
Purpose: To facilitate efficient and timely communication within the LSCDS executive team as well as between LSCDS and its members, life sciences professionals, and external offices and organizations; ensure event promotions; develop promotional strategies and timely response to all LSCDS inquiries.
Responsibilities: Promote LSCDS events to life sciences graduate students using MadMimi platform and via email to various Faculty of Medicine departments, affiliated hospitals, and research institutions; post event surveys and relevant advertisements through the LSCDS website; compose and design LSCDS newsletters; and maintain social media platforms and develop strategies to increase awareness of LSCDS.
Purpose: To organize mini-networking events with industry professionals from different fields for life science graduate students to explore various career options as well as to gain the opportunity to network and connect with professionals in a friendly and intimate networking environment.
Responsibilities: Assist with the recruitment of life sciences industry professionals; assist with the venue arrangement, catering, registration, and other event related details; assist with event promotion and marketing campaign, assist with managing and updating the LSCDS Mini Networking Events website pages (previous experience with WordPress is preferred).
Purpose: To organize a reception with industry professionals across a variety of disciplines for life science graduate students to explore various career options while gaining the opportunity to network.
Responsibilities: Assist with the recruitment of successful life sciences professionals from diverse careers; assist with the venue arrangement, catering, registration, event packages and other event related details; assist with event promotion and marketing campaign.
Purpose: To maintain the LSCDS WordPress website, maintain, update and improve the organization’s website.
Responsibilities: Assist various teams with event registration; will require hard-coding skills outside of maintaining registration through WordPress; knowledgeable in integrating various APIs such as PayPal, MadMimi etc with the LSCDS WordPress website; well equipped with some basic PHP, CSS, HTML
